Two notes:
First: Insert a shocked Pikachu face that this well-known issue that I've seen other mods take preventative measures against has come for my own tagset. I've been disambiguating nominations as they've come in since yesterday, but there are wanderers from the first day of nominations. While I will continue to disambiguate going forward and be checking over fandoms in the coming days before signups open, I do ask that:
1) If you know your nomination is wandering, please let me know which tag it is, and which fandom you intended for them to be in.
2) Alternatively, if you know a character or group has wandered in a way that breaks the rules of the exchange (ex. they're only sometimes Black, and they're appearing under a fandom where they are not), please let me know.
3) If you are in the process of nominating and you know your nomination has the potential to wander (which usually happens when there are multiple adaptations, versions, or editions in the fandom), please disambiguate with fandom you are nominating them under.
This is only a mission to disambiguate. I will not be removing any characters unless I am absolutely positive that they are not Black in a given version that the tag has wandered into, and that will be the last step after making sure other versions have been secured, even if that means someone ended up somewhere where they weren't necessarily nominated, but the shoe fits.Second: I could have been a lot more clear about when to avoid "All Media Types" and when to nominate under parent megafandoms or more specific branches. The top priority here should be to avoid conflicting versions of the same characters, especially in cases where a character's race changes in different versions.
For Marvel and DC comics and movies, I've been accepting both under the general tags and the under more specific subfandoms (ex. Black Panther (2018)). The goal here is to prevent having to do weird dances around "crossovers" groups and characters who exist within the same universe and frequently the same canons together, while also being able to convey through your signups that you're more interested in specifically Black Panther than the larger Marvel world (or vice versa, or both).
I apologize for not being more clear on this front earlier. If your nominations have been affected, either because you would have nominated differently with this understanding or because you ran out of slots, I'd be happy to 1) copy characters or groups already in the tagset into your preferred fandom and 2) add a freebie fandom with characters. For this, you can either comment below, DM me, or email me at yetanothermod@gmail.com. Please be signed in or sign with your AO3 name for No. 2.
