Hi! I am so excited, and thanks for all your hard work already during the nominations period.

A quick confirmation question, as this looks a little different from other challenges I've known -- is the idea here that each request is the request for a separate fandom, and we should make as many requests as we have fandoms we'd be willing to receive for, with the minimum being three and the maximum being ten?

I have a question. I want to request and offer Billie from Supernatural. However, I see someone else nominated Billie/Crowley. Can I state in my DNWs that I refuse to write Billie with this rapist character?

I appreciate the enthusiasm! Yes, that’s basically it, along with the specific characters and mediums that you’d want for each fandom request. Offers are basically the same, but you don’t need to offer everything you request or vice versa.

DNWs are only for what you do not want in your own gift, which may include NOTPs. You are not required to write any character or ship that you do not offer.

I had a question, if my offer has someone that is a bad guy canonically, but I only want to offer him as redeemed or good...Can I state that in the description or am I SOL if I get matched with someone wanting a story of them as canon bad?

Nominations are basically to create the list of things people can offer and request. It makes sure there are things people want to get and give available without the mod having to guess.

When you click through to sign-ups, it will ask you to add 3-10 requests (things you're happy to receive) and 3-10 offers (things you're happy to create). And then, as you say, two people who sign up for something similar can be matched with each other.

But you can only offer or request things that have already been nominated. The tagset is basically a list of what's been nominated: https://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/5325

There's an optional 'Description' box where you can write a little bit about the kind of things you like, things you don't want, and suggested prompts if you want to give them. That way your assigned creator gets some guidance beyond just characters or relationships.

You can't see what other people are offering, but if you look at the 'Requests' page you can see what other people are asking for: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/BlackIsBeautiful2021/requests.

You could match to each other, yes. But it's also possible that you're assigned to create a gift for them, but someone else is assigned to create a gift for you. It's a surprise.

I don't know if it's too late to flag it, but it looks like there might have been an accidental migration. "Lykon (Old Guard Comics)" appears as a solo character under The Old Guard (Comics). While the character is Black in the movie, which he's also been nominated under, he is not in the comics.

The other important thing is to add your DNWs to the Description box. DNWs are Do Not Wants, or things you absolutely don't want to receive (such as character death, spiders, etc).

Alexander Rozhenko is in the tagset under Star Trek: The Next Generation without any groupings. Happy to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure every actor who ever played him on the show and in subsequent appearances in the TV franchise was white.

Hi there -- thank for pointing this out, but unfortunately tagsets can't be edited after people have started signing up. If you want to include this group in your signup, I suggest using the disambiguated form then doublechecking other's requests before signups close.

I accepted Alexander as the son of Worf, who I accepted as at least fantasy!Black because he was portrayed by Michael Dorn. While the IRL casting and costuming is less than ideal within that interpretation, I didn't want to hold that against the nominator of what I saw as a fair assumption of who the character should be in fiction.

Thank you for pointing this out. While it's too late to fix the tagset, I'll make sure to doublecheck that the comic version isn't used in requests.

While you can prompt bad guy gone good, this exchange does not guarantee that a gift will stick to a particular prompt or interpretation of a character, so please do take that into consideration when deciding who to request. Someone wanting to write the canonical version of a character is usually a safe bet, and they're full participants who want to have a good time with their assignment, too.

...is Crowley a rapist? o_O

Yes, he is. Season 11, episode 1. He possesses Marnie without her consent, then uses her body to participate in an orgy. That is rape. Also, neither Marnie's husband or their friends consented to sex with Crowley. That is rape too.
I also believe he assaulted Meg during the year he tortured her, based on several things, but it is not strictly canon.

TNG nominator here. This was actually a mistake on my part; I thought I remembered one of the actors who played Alexander being Black, but I was wrong. Accepting the nomination on the basis of him being Worf's son is fair, though if I had double checked and realized all the actors were white, I personally would have erred on the side of caution and not nominated him. Obviously it's your call, I just thought I'd put that out there. (And I do appreciate the assumption of good faith!)
